Jill *IS* astoundingly funny. If I could think this way, believe me, I would.

So, does she hire out? She could do a series of these "interviews" with authors. By authors. I'll volunteer!! She can even mock my hair, and I promise not to cry. Maybe. Of course, if I cry, it'll probably get way better press...

The artists who are artists, and not sales people, tend to be very hungry artists. That's fine, if you're on a diet.

I don’t mind playing the overture to a work written for others, but the selling of oneself sounds kind of bad.

Savor Me Sloooooowwwwly. Don't think I'll be forgetting that title now. Well done, Jill. And Gena was a great sport about it -- I mean, letting Jill mock her wardrobe and hair like that!

Love the video. Between Jill's humor and Gena's perfect straight man (woman) routine, how can anyone resist?

Let artists be artists, not salespeople? I tried that one on. Didn't work. Don't take bowerbird's advice. Maybe it works with larger publishers--you know, for people with agents, house publicists, etc.--but if you're published by a university press, you need to push. Take it from a woman with good endorsements, good awards/commendations, scarce sales. I kick myself every day. And now, with a book out since May, it's too late for me to try something like this. Cheers to Gena. Let the viewers decide which clips they'll click on.

I wonder if Tom Clancy would do one with me? Maybe if I let him attack me with nuclear weapons? Now that would make a good video.

self-hype doesn't scale.

there's hundreds of thousands of books
out, and _another_ hundred thousand
on the way next year... do we _really_
want to have every one of those authors
pounding on our doors for attention?not to mention musicians doing it too?
and the poets and multi-media artists?

collaborative filtering is the real answer.

let artists be artists, not salespeople...
