So, does she hire out? She could do a series of these “interviews” with authors. By authors. I’ll volunteer!! She can even mock my hair, and I promise not to cry. Maybe. Of course, if I cry, it’ll probably get way better press…

Let artists be artists, not salespeople? I tried that one on. Didn’t work. Don’t take bowerbird’s advice. Maybe it works with larger publishers–you know, for people with agents, house publicists, etc.–but if you’re published by a university press, you need to push. Take it from a woman with good endorsements, good awards/commendations, scarce sales. I kick myself every day. And now, with a book out since May, it’s too late for me to try something like this. Cheers to Gena. Let the viewers decide which clips they’ll click on.

self-hype doesn’t scale.

there’s hundreds of thousands of books
out, and _another_ hundred thousand
on the way next year… do we _really_
want to have every one of those authors
pounding on our doors for attention?not to mention musicians doing it too?
and the poets and multi-media artists?

collaborative filtering is the real answer.

let artists be artists, not salespeople…
