Do you think it’s safe for her to read American Pastoral ? Given, you know, the problem with the daughter, Merry?’ Philip says: ‘I think your daughter has reached the age when she should read anything she chooses to read. I don’t think you can control her reading.’ She says: ‘Well, I just wanted to hear if it was OK, from the horse’s mouth.’
