Seated two tables away was Monica Lewinsky. Hmm. Is she scheduled for the festival? Double-billed with Toni Bentley?

After going through the program for the LATBF, I was amazed to see the lack of the romance genre. Without debating the literary merit of romance, it seems significant that a genre that accounts for such a huge number of fiction sales in this country would be so neglected. I also noticed the RWA didn’t have a booth. I’m surprised the organization isn’t taking more of an interest considering the size of the event.

There are quite a few romance authors attending this year’s festival, at least on a signing basis, but they certainly could use a new panel (I wasn’t nuts about the last panel they did all those years ago!). I’m sure Steve Wasserman will contact me forthwith for my thoughts on how to improve just about everything and I’ll bring it up!

Hmmm? This year I can’t even find any evidence that they think the genre exists.
