If I don’t acquire and read this book this weekend (and will be hitting Vroman’s this morning — hopefully the trucks with books have made it to California), it likely won’t be read until December. I’ve spent the past two months doing the mental preparations (this is sometimes confused with staring off into space) and start work on my next book on Tuesday. I’ve learned not to read a lot of fiction while working through the first couple of drafts because some authors have such incredible rhythm to their work, and my brain starts outputting their cadence.

It’s incredibly cool when an author’s voice affects me this way — but not so cool when it overtakes my own work (I have a strong voice — it hits the gym regularly — but some authors are like aikido masters…I walk right into trouble!). And then there’s the siren song thing — you know, when the book calls “just one more page” and before you know it, you’ve lost an entire day!

It was in stores at Borders here in MI yesterday – plastic wrapped and everything. I’m impressed with the mere need for 24 hours as it rolls in at I believe 768 pages!

Have fun,
