Augustus built a lot of roads and aqueducts but wasn’t much for literature. Ovid’s Metamorphosis had to be toned down so as not to offend the emperor’s conservative sensibilities. Bad playwrights were sometimes beheaded; think of the possibilities! TV would be a blank space. Not ESPN though.
