I see Kaufman’s point, but despite my degree in literature and career in publishing, I don’t share it. While losing physical books is disconcerting, I don’t see it as a cultural or moral collapse.

On the other hand, the truly frightening thing about ebooks is the current ability for central controllers to delete books from reader’s devices. What happens when one day someone decides to delete the Bible? Or everything with the word “gay” in it? Or everything by Mark Twain?
