It’s A Two-fer

It is a rare day when we can combine two of our favorite things into a single post. Such is our excitement, we have held off all day, hoping the thrill would diminish.

It did not.

Thus, we bring you Edward Wyatt profiling Dan Brown. You read that right. If we didn’t have a mandate to live to age 113, we would die happy right now. They discuss, via email, the pressures a certain book has placed on the author. Darn those higher expectations, the problems with celebrity (hey, we sympathize), and the fact that characters don’t give a rip about how many weeks you’ve spent on the bestseller list. These are real issues, and while we’d like to suffer them (except for the celebrity — not good for shy people), we don’t envy Brown.

Oh, who are we kidding? His agent apparently renegotiated his pre-Da Vinci agreement up into a range not contemplated by Publisher’s Lunch. We totally envy Brown.

I was also amazed by the staggering $50 million he’s made from his 4 books in the last 2 years! For that kind of money, he should be prepared to deal with a little celebrity!
