I’ve been one of those who has wondered when publishers would start aiming at the whole ‘value-added’ content aspect of ebooks. The potential is there, though I’m not sure the technology is in place for it. It certainly seems to hold some potential for expanding readership, especially in the younger crowd who are so technology addicted. I certainly like the idea, and have played around with the notion myself, making a couple chapters of my stories available (unpublished mind you) with sidebars that provide additional information about places and characters. Would I read an entire book that way? Not sure, as I don’t really access ebooks (no reader, and don’t read novel length stuff on my computer). It will definitely be interesting to see how it develops over the next couple of years as reader technology advances. Interactive books could be really exciting or a complete waste of money, but I’m betting, over time we’re going to see it take hold.
